And, in case you’re wondering, this Zero Sugar version isn’t here to replace the Diet Dew. In fact, Taco Bell offers a Mountain Dew Baja Blast Sugar free drink and it reportedly tastes just like the regular Dew. It’s important to note that this drink isn’t exactly the brand’s first venture in lessening their sugar content. MTN DEW Zero Sugar delivers a bold flavor and ever-evolving consumer preferences.” Amazon “Because our fans are uncompromising with the DEW they know and love, we knew had to pull off a formulation that would preserve the great taste of the original. MTN DEW’s Vice President of Marketing, Nicole Portwood, said this in a press release: Thankfully, the new Mountain Dew Zero Sugar has arrived to save us from a life without fizz! This exciting new drink reportedly offers the full Dew flavor without the risk of cavities and in extreme cases diabetes. But quitting the fizzy drinks isn’t exactly something one can achieve easily. You can bet that as soon as I get a bottle/can, I’ll let you know all about it.If you’re like me, you’ve probably been trying to cut back on drinking soda after learning the scary amount of sugar that goes into it. I’ve seen a new Blue that is set to hit shelves soon. I’m excited to see what more Dew flavors will be coming out soon. So, I can’t guess as to their reasoning.Īnyway, that’s all for this review. So, again, why does this soda exist? Will Diet be phased out? I can’t really see a market where the two of these exist. It’s like how there’s different over-the-counter pain meds, because some people are sensitive to Ibuprofen and not Acetaminophen or whatever.īut nope, both Zero and Diet both just use Aspartame. Throwback situation, where some people don’t mind the HFCS vs. That would justify its existence, in my opinion, since it would be different from Diet Dew. I was expecting, upon reading the label, that maybe this soda used a different zero-calorie sweetener than Aspartame. I have to say, all in all, I’m not 100% sure why this soda exists. But if you’re a fan of Aspartame, maybe go for the Zero sugar. If you’re not a fan of that, I would suggest sticking with Diet. In the end, I feel that Zero Sugar actually gives you a bit more of the Aspartame aftertaste than Diet does. They also use concentrated orange juice, whereas Diet just uses citric acid. It’s interesting to note that Zero has it higher in their ingredients list. Both Diet and Zero use Aspartame as their sweetener of choice. So, what gave the two Diet varieties away? The aftertaste. I think Diet Soda technology might have advanced since I last really tried it. I have to say, it wasn’t the easiest thing ever. It’d be something if I couldn’t tell which was Original. Overall, I’m ok with getting those two wrong. However, I did swap Diet and Zero in my guesses (so, what I thought was Diet was actually Zero and vice-versa). So, how’d the results turn out? Well, I’m happy to say that I could correctly identify Original Recipe Dew. It was only Diet that I’d not had in a very long time. Now, I should note that I’d obviously had Original Recipe Dew before and I’d already tried the Zero Sugar variety the other day. I’d take a sip, consider it, then hand it back and she’d go get another. While I was in another room, she poured some of each into different glasses and brought them out to me to taste. Many thanks to my friend (the same friend who helped me pick up some Dew I’d recently done reviews of), who helped me out. I grabbed a 20oz of Original Recipe and a 20oz of Diet Dew and planned on doing a blind taste test! So, what were those other supplies I picked up along with the Zero Sugar? Apparently it is, because I didn’t expect Diet Dew 2: Diet Harder to come around. I’d considered doing it for a review, but always just kinda went, “meeeh, it’s not really necessary, is it?” (even though I felt doing Original Recipe Dew was worth it). Here’s the thing, it’d been a long, long, long time since I’d had Diet Dew. Or, at least, I thought it tasted like Diet Dew. But how does it taste? That’s the big question. So, how does this new Dew taste? Let’s get to the pour. I wish I’d originally seen a 20oz bottle, but at my Kroger at the time, all they had were 12-packs, so I grabbed one, along with some extra supplies I knew I’d need, and brought them all home. But, being a new variety of Mountain Dew, I knew I needed to try it anyway. So… I have no idea what this is for, really. … Which is weird, because Diet Mountain Dew exists already, and has for quite some time. This one is called Mountain Dew Zero Sugar. While I was at the grocery store a couple weeks ago, I happened upon a New version of Dew. It’s time again for another Mountain Dew review.
